“The heated dispute is filled with battle-like smoke. The excellent eloquence distinguishes between rights and wrongs.”
In the afternoon of December 5, 2015, the final of The Third SUSTC Debate Contest was held in Shuren Activity Room, sponsored by the Student Union, and assisted by the Debating Society. Through the fierce confrontation, “Rang Dui Fang Bian You Wu Yan Yi” team (the positive side) won the champion. The third debater of the positive side Pan Minglun was honored with “the best debater”. He Zilong was honored with “the favorite debater”.
In the beginning of October, the Student Union and the Academic Department received a great number of applications, with 32 students being shortlisted to be the debaters. In the preliminary contest and the round-robin contest, all the debaters performed well. In the end, “Rang Dui Fang Bian You Wu Yan Yi” team and “Shuo De Dou” reached the final.
In the final of The Third SUSTC Debate Contest, the debaters of the positive and negative sides entered into a heated debate around a recent internet buzz: “Should current China university campuses be opened completely?”. The debaters gave full play to their high-level debate, with their incisive expression and sharp words being aggressive. The debaters made good preparation before the debate. “Shuo De Dou” team gave some examples about Wuhan University, Sichuan University, etc. to argue for the opinions of the negative side. “Rang Dui Fang Bian You Wu Yan Yi” team cited various authorities to argue around knowledge dissemination, cultural exchange, talent cultivation, campus safety, etc., and fought against the rivals with their logical loopholes, e.g., the difference between “current” and “temporary”, the essence and role of the university, etc. The final came to an end with the conclusions of both sides. “Rang Dui Fang Bian You Wu Yan Yi” team (positive side) and “Shuo De Dou” (negative side) won the champion and runner-up of The Third SUSTC Debate Contest respectively. The third debater of the positive side Pan Minglun was honored with “the best debater” in the final.
