On the afternoon of December 13, the Bridge Penetration Campaign was held in the Activity Room in Zhicheng College of SUSTC. Mr. Xiang Huaicheng, Chairman of Chinese Contract Bridge Association and former Minister of Finance, bridge world champion Gu Ling, Vice Secretary General Li Guohua of Chinese Contract Bridge Association, Chairman Liu Yuzhang of Xinrui Bridge, Vice President Zhang Yaodong of Shenzhen Contract Bridge Association, Vice Director Han Wei of SUSTC Preparation Office, and Dean Xia Zhihong of Department of Mathematics and Zhicheng College. Nearly 100 bridge fans and members in SUSTC Bridge Club attended the Campaign.

We wish to express thanks to bridge experts and scholars who were in SUSTC for lectures and talks. We also hope the students can fall in love with the bridge representing grace and elegance.

Zhang Yaodong, in his speech, praised SUSTC for disseminating the bridge. He also hope that Bridge can develop at Shenzhen speed so that it is better penetrated in SUSTC and achieve exceptional results.

Xiang Huaicheng also donated to SUSTC Bridge Club some exquisite bridge utensils. He also wrote two pieces of calligraphy for SUSTC, meaning “wish SUSTC more successful” and “SUSTC Bridge Club”.

In the lecturing part, Master Gu Ling introduced the history, culture and basic knowledge of bridge. Liu Yuzhang explained in detail the bridge rules and skills. They also played together with Club members, who were very excited to play with world champions.

As the first-grade student society in SUSTC, SUSTC Bridge Club was established in September 2015. Now it has over 50 members. According to Li Yansong, Vice Director of SUSTC Bridge Club, though it is a newly established one, it has developed a number of bridge fans and participants in SUSTC. Members in the Club have won a gold medal and a silver medal in the National Bridge Communications Competition, College Students.
