Days ago, the final of 2nd Session of Campus Voice Competition for Chinese Universities, Guangdong, which was themed on Young People Sing Chinese Dream, was held in Xinghai School of Music. The event was organized by Guangdong Provincial Department of Education. SUSTC students Xiong Qianwei, Zhang Yuxin, Wang Zhenming, Luo Dan, Lin Yiwen and Gu Jingsheng were selected to compete in the final, winning the third place in it.
The Competition is themed on Young People Sing Chinese Dream. The plain music, sincere and touching lyrics, and the positive and proactive rhythm reflect the life of young college students and reveal their dynamics and energy as the young people. The Competition had two parts, in-college contest and in-province contest. The Competition adopted the model of “individual singers were scored for the university they represented”. Each university team took the 4+X model. 4 means 4 students made solo performance. X means other forms (combination). The final had only one round with judges giving scores on the site.
At the end of November, SUSTC organized the in-college contest to select competition team for the upcoming in-province contest. Since the beginning of December, under the guidance of Lyu Yao from Shuren College, the 6 students and piano accompanist Zhang Lun had started the rehearsal. The preliminary competition was organized in the form of video selection. After the professional review by the judges, SUSTC entered the final competition.
In the final competition, Xiong Qianwei sang the Crescent Moon in the most elegant and attractive way, touching all audiences.
Zhang Xuxin changed her usual generous style of singing and sang To the Future Self in the most emotional way. Though no high pitch was heard, the song reached the hearts of audiences directly.
With the song Rudy Expanded Score, Wang Zhenming perfect showcased the persistence in dreams, voicing the inner world of all people who are about to realize their dreams.
In the form of combination, Lin Yiwen and Luo Dan, again, sang the Mint Slope, a song originally composed for them. The refreshing and bright style brought unique feeling to the music hall.
Gu Jingsheng, with his Swallowtail Butterfly, almost brought the atmosphere to the peak, which finally came when the 6-student chorus excited everybody present.
After the professional judges gave scores, SUSTC won the third place in Campus Voice Competition for Chinese Universities, Guangdong. This was the first time for SUSTC to compete in the national-level competition and win such a good result.
