Heads of four American, Australian universities visit SUSTech for cooperation negotiation

On March 22, Southern University of Science and Technology of China (SUSTech) greeted leaders from four world top universities. The two sides exchanged ideas on PhD candidate and undergraduate co-training, international graduate education, research cooperation, summer exchange, teacher development and new training modes.

Jun LIU, Vice Provost of Stony Brook University (SBU), introduced SBU and said that he visited SUSTech to explore all-round cooperation with SUSTech. Since its establishment in 1957, SBU has developed into a prestigious research-oriented public university in the USA in a short period of time, achieving a lot of outstanding results. Superior in disciplines such as science and engineering, medicine and public health, SBU has a lot in common with SUSTech. In terms of international cooperation, SBU has established cooperative relations with universities in Korea, Kenya, Madagascar and Italy, and expects to vigorously develop its cooperative relations with universities in China. The two sides can cooperate in school exchange, two-way training, research center establishment and teacher development.

On the morning of March 22, Chen Shiyi, President of SUSTech, held a meeting with Simon BIGGS, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology, University of Queensland (UQ). BIGGS introduced the development of UQ and the faculty, and explored the possibility of cooperation with SUSTech. SUSTech offers all-English education with a strong and highly internationalized faculty, showing that SUSTech meets the requirements of working with top foreign universities. SUSTech’s teaching system featuring enterprise-university-institute integration and a lot of practice opportunities will attract UQ’s students to SUSTEC. Both sides undertook to advance all-round cooperation in student exchange, co-training and exchange visits of scholars.

Jun WANG from the International Department, Faculty of Engineering, University of California-Riverside (UCR) introduced the development of UCR and its cooperation with China. He expected the two sides to establish and deepen project cooperation through the meeting and initiate all-round exchange as soon as possible, adding that the cooperation can start with characteristic bachelor’s, master’s and PhD programs, summer research projects and international undergraduate graduation projects.
