President Chen Shiyi’s visit for innovative models of medical education in Singapore

Last week, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) President Chen Shiyi led a delegation to visit three medical schools in Singapore. He was joined by Vice President Lu Chun, Director of the Preparatory Office of Affiliated Hospitals Wang Pengfei and Deputy Director Zhang Jian.

As part of the visit, the delegation visited the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, the Duke-National University of Singapore Medical School and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. The purpose of the trip is to understand the advantages and challenges of international cooperation in medical schools while also discussing a new model of medical education.

Deputy Dean Michael Alan Ferenczi of the Lee Kwon Chian School of Medicine, Dean Thomas Coffman of the Duke-NUS Medical School, and Deputy Dean Liu Danqing of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine all welcomed the SUSTech delegation. They received introductions into the different schools.

All three institutions stressed the importance of international cooperation from the earliest stages of developing a medical school. They also pointed out that such cooperation increased the amount of research cooperation as well. All three institutions sought to strengthen their cooperation with SUSTech to promote technological development and innovation.

President Chen Shiyi introduced SUSTech to the medical school leaders. He added that the success of the three medical schools is important for the development of the School of Medicine at SUSTech.
