| 06/17/2016

On the morning of June 15, 2016, Aptitude Test of 2016 SUSTech Independent Recruitment began simultaneously in 22 provinces in China. At the 241 examination rooms of the 33 testing sites, SUSTech first adopted computer-based testing (CBT) this year.

A total of 19901 senior students of high school registered online for the test this year and 11774 of them were given the chance to take the test after the preliminary screening. SUSTech would select the best 1000 examinees, of which 146 would be from Guangdong Province.

Before the test, examinees are carefully checking their exam room info and examinee numbers.

It is the 5th year since SUSTech adopted the recruitment model (“6+3+1” model) of comprehensive evaluation based on the college entrance examination. Initiated and adopted by SUSTech in 2012, this model has a comprehensive evaluation system integrating the score of National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) and High School Academic Report (HSAR) with the score of aptitude test of SUSTech independent recruitment; that is, NCEE score accounts for 60% of the final score, SUSTech aptitude test score for 30%, and HSAR score for 10%. The best students judged by this system will be admitted.

SUSTech’s “6+3+1” recruitment model of comprehensive evaluation has received positive feedback from Ministry of Education and won extensive compliments from all walks of the society. This Model has aroused the interest of many universities, who are intended to learn from SUSTech and adopt the model.

In July this year, SUSTech will graduate the students first recruited according to the “6+3+1” model in 2012. So far, about 80% of them have received offers from postgraduate programs or employers.
SUSTech’s enrollment this year presented two new features:

First, it applies computer-based testing for the first time. Test contents included knowledge application (such as mathematic basis, specialty, understanding and calculation, logic and thinking, English application), and creative ability (featuring imagination, insight, concentration, critical thinking, etc). Tests were objective questions only.

Second, registrants and examinees doubled. This year, SUSTech expected to recruit 1000 students, 63 more compared to last year’s 937, increased by less than 7%. However, registrants for enrollment test this year rose from 11000 to 19901, an increase of 80%, and examinees surged from 5960 to 11774, an increase of 97%.

According to statistics, 68% of last year’s graduates continued their study in internationally noted universities, and 60% of this year’s graduates had received offers from well-known universities such as Oxford University, California Institute of Technology, Columbia University, Duke University, New York University and University of Pennsylvania. SUSTech led the “985 Project” universities in the number of students who furthered their studies abroad. As for graduates who plunged into job market, they mainly chose to stay in Shenzhen and were employed by big companies such as Huawei, Tencent, Ping An Bank and Kuang-chi. Their outstanding performance fully exhibited that SUSTech’s educational ideal and international training model were effective.

SUSTech provides lounge and drinking water for parents.

After exams, students can get a T-shirt as souvenir.

Results of tests are expected to be published in the afternoon of June 17, and then the interviews would be launched in different provinces in succession.
