The 1st Monthly Forum of Young Scholars’ Conference Held at SUSTech

On June 19, 2016, the 1st Monthly Forum of the Young Scholars’ Conference was held in the International Conference Hall at SUSTech. The forum jointly organized by SUSTech, the Secretariat of Young Scholars’ Conference, Hicreat ThinkTank Science and Technology Service Center of the Recruitment Program of Global Expert and the South Startup Service Center of the Recruitment Program of Global Expert.

Academician Liu Ke, chair professor of the Chemistry Department at SUSTech, Professor Wu Jingshen, Professor Weiyan, and another 50 experts attended the forum. Professor Zhang Xumu, Chair of the Department of Chemistry at SUSTech hosted the forum.

Academician Liu addressed the opening ceremony. In his speech, he said that an increasing number of excellent young scholars are needed in the field of chemistry. He hoped that by hosting such high-level forums for international exchanges, more and more young chemists would be enlightened in academic exchanges and discussions of technology, so as to become outstanding chemists and make contribution to the development of chemistry.

Prof. Zhang Xumu introduced to the attendees the tremendous progress made by SUSTech and the Department of Chemistry. He announced that the Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry Mr. Robert H. Grubbs had already been invited to join the university. He believed that in the near future, more impressive progress would be made in this department.

As a special guest, Prof. Robert H. Grubbs shared his entrepreneurial experience in the past several decades under the theme of “Fundamental Science to Commercial Products”, especially elaborated on some questions that innovative enterprises should pay close attention to.

Then, keynote speeches about “synthetic chemistry and polymer ” were given by ten scholars including Prof. Wei Yan from Tsinghua University, Doctor Xin Shixuan from China National Petroleum Corporation, Prof. Liu Lizhi from Sinopec, Researcher Tang Wenjun from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry and Prof. Wang Wei from East China University of Science and Technology

Experts and scholars are exchanging with each other during Poster Presentation

As a special session of the forum, Poster Presentation draws a lot of students to interact with young scholars.

The Young Scholars’ Conference aims to unite global youths working in science and technology area, provide international platforms for the display of domestic research results and promote more young talents to emerge so that Chinese young scholars and the colleges and scientific institutions to which they belong can receive greater social concern, generate more international impact as well as make more contribution to disciplinary progress and social development.
