In 2016, altogether 994 students from 22 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) were enrolled by SUSTech. Up to July 18, 925 Letters of Admission have been sent to those candidates, and all the Letters of Admission will be sent by July 20.
There is an increase of 57 new undergraduate students compared with last year. In most provinces, the science candidates of SUSTech rank top 2% of their peers, thus improving the student quality of SUSTech.

In 2016, the students were still enrolled depending on a comprehensive appraisal enrollment mode based on College Entrance Examination, i.e., the score of College Entrance Examination accounting for 60%, the score of Student Ability Test of SUSTech 30% and the score of Academic Proficiency Test during high school 10%. The enrollment began on July 4 and ended on July 16 with 994 students in all admitted. During the enrollment, the Admission Working Group of our University provided timely guidance, supervision as well as decision-making. The University leaders also went to the sites of admission and extended their regards to the staff there.
On the basis of last year’s significant increase of the quality of new students, the quality of this year’s students is much better. From the perspective of the score of College Entrance Examination, the science candidates rank top 2% of their peers in most provinces. Among them, candidates in Anhui Province rank top 1.3% and those in Sichuan Province rank top 1.6%.
149 Students from Guangdong Province, 19 More Than Scheduled
SUSTech planned to enroll 130 students in Guangdong but actually expanded the number to 149. According to statistics, the freshmen performed well (average grade of 70.3 points) in computer-based test of SUSTech’s Student Ability Test, which shows their solid ground in science. Their performances in the interview session are also impressive, which indicate their capacity in expressing themselves, thinking, innovating, practicing, and using English. Their average mark in Academic Proficiency Test is 9.79 with the full credit being 10. Also, their average mark in College Entrance Examination reached 597, which is 89 higher than the enrollment threshold of key universities. The highest mark is 646, ranking top 800 in Guangdong, and the lowest mark is 578.
On the whole, with their comprehensive quality, academic expertise and innovation potential, the freshmen meet the mission and expectation of enrollment of SUSTech.
In terms of student performances in College Entrance Examination, the average score of our freshmen ranks 7570 among 350,000 students in Guangdong, which is 3000 places higher than that of last year. With a progress in average score from ranking top 3.21% to top 2.11%, SUSTech ranks second in universities of Guangdong in terms of student admission based on comprehensive evaluation.
Among the 149 students, 90 come from Shenzhen, accounting for 60.4%, which hit a record high. Obviously, candidates of Shenzhen trust and pay high attention to SUSTech.
Nine Tenths of Letters of Admission Have Been Sent and the Rest Will All Be Sent Before July 20
On July 14, Letters of Admission for freshmen in provinces like Guangxi and Fujian have been sent. By July 18, more than 90% of the letters have been sent. All the Admission Letters are expected to be sent before July 20. Beside Letters of Admission, documents include Freshmen Guide, Financial Aid Manuals, and summer E-learning English Programs were also sent.
