From May 24th to 26th, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was the host of the China Association for Comparative Studies of English and Chinese (CACSEC) 2019 National Foreign Language Education Informatization Forum. It also welcomed the first meeting of the CACSEC Foreign Language Educational Technical Committee. SUSTech Vice President Lu Chun attended the opening ceremony.
CACSEC organized the event. The joint hosts were the Center for Language Education and Higher Education Research Center, Shanghai Foreign Language Audio & Video Publishing House and the National Language Proficiency Development Research Center.
Vice President Lu Chun highlighted SUSTech’s work in international education, including the English curriculum throughout all courses, open language courses, and summer exchange programs. Vice President Lu Chun and Dean Chen Yuehong of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences were joined by CACSEC vice president Yang Wendi and Foreign Language Education Technical Committee vice president Hu Jiasheng in unveiling the Foreign Language Education Professional Committee.
Following the unveiling of the Professional Committee, several reports were given on a wide range of topics. Speeches were given by high ranking government officials, leading higher education faculty members and researchers, as well as members of our own faculty at the Center for Language Education. The forum also had a number of smaller side meetings set up, which saw plenty of in-depth discussions about foreign language education technology, linguistic research, online digital curriculum development and educational research.
The CACSEC Foreign Language Education Technical Committee is dedicated to serving foreign language teaching and research. It is similarly committed to researching trends in the new era of media, technology and big data. New topics of interest include the deeper integration of educational technology for foreign language education, and the promotion of national foreign language education. Acting Director of the Center for Language Education Li Yuan is an Executive Director of the Technical Committee, while Higher Education Research Center’s Zhao Jianhua is a committee member.
