The Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has regular Academic Salons to feature the research of local scholars and faculty in the Humanities and Social Sciences. This year, the Society of Fellows hosted its first Future Scholars Forum, in which undergraduate students shared their educational and research results achieved in courses taught by the Society of Fellows.
Students’ presentations explored Shenzhen’s culture, economy, and society. They employed a wide range of methods, including online data mining and analysis, archival research, ethnographic observation and interviews. Students examined the internationalization of Shenzhen’s food culture and enterprises, as well as the development of Shenzhen’s urban villages.
The richly researched topics and presentations show the potential of SUSTech students in social science research, and reflect the diversity of liberal arts education at SUSTech.
