Recently, the 15th Challenge Cup, representing the Guangdong University Students’ Extracurricular Academic Scientific and Technological project competition, was held at Foshan Institute of Science and Technology. Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) students won ten prizes, including two 2nd prizes and eight 3rd prizes. This is the best result for SUSTech so far.

Shude College sophomore student Yin Yuchen worked with other students to create “Methanol-based internal combustion engine load-bearing drone, based on the support wing design,” which earned a second prize in the Science and Technology innovation category. Shuren College senior student Yang Qi submitted a paper called “Simple synthesis of uniform tin-germanium alloy nanomaterials with adjustable band gap,” which also won a second prize, but in the Natural Science Academic Papers category.

The Challenge Cup is considered to be the academic Olympics for domestic university students in the area of scientific and technological innovation and entrepreneurship. It covers a wide range of scientific topics, and is an authoritative college competition. It occurs every two years, and encourages students to meet innovative challenges. The Challenge Cup has improved students’ hands-on abilities and teamwork skills, reflecting on the youthful spirit of SUSTech students.
