Academician He Fuchu of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and deputy dean of the PLA’s Academy of Military Sciences (AMS) came to Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) recently. He gave the 226th lecture in the SUSTech lecture series, in which he provided an enthralling lecture about “Liberating Creativity and Enlightening Civilization.” The lecture was hosted by Professor Wang Susheng of the Department of Finance.

Deputy Dean He Fuchu explained the significance of creativity to the development of human society. He pointed out that creativity is a unique human ability to successfully accomplish some kind of creative activity. He vividly compared the creativity to the “three heavens”, in that it is the original innovation of “creating something out of nothing”, the integrated innovation of “the peak”, and the subversive innovation of “making the wind”.

He Fuchu also introduced the law of inertia to the development of civilization. He summed up the reasons for the “development trap”, and explained how we should overcome inertia to liberate our creativity.
