On August 2, the International Conference on “Statistical Properties of Nonequilibrium Dynamical Systems” concluded in SUSTech. The conference was jointly hosted by SUSTech and National Science Foundation (NSF) and organized by Department of Mathematics of SUSTech, attracting about 100 experts and scholars in this field from all over the world. Academician Wen Lan and Long Yiming from Chinese Academy of Sciences and Prof.Ye Xiangdong, Deputy Chairman of the University Council of University of Science and Technology of China, attended the conference.

The conference was inaugurated on July 27. On the opening ceremony, Prof. Xia Zhihong, Head of Department of Mathematics, comprehensively introduced the past, present and future of SUSTech and its Department of Mathematics to all the scholars presented at the conference.

Before the conference, there was a preliminary workshop from July 4 to July 26. During the conference and workshop which lasted nearly one month, a number of world leading experts in dynamical systems gathered in SUSTech and made over 100 reports on multiple core problems in the field. They in particular discussed the newest research results, ideas and methodologies of the nonequilibrium dynamical systems and statistical physics, which have widened their research perspectives and inspired them in study direction.

On July 29, SUSTech prepared a special birthday banquet for Prof. Wen Lan, Prof. Keith Burns, Prof. Konstantin Khanin, Prof. Carlangelo Liverani and Prof. Sandro Vaienti. President Chen Shiyi also sent flowers to deliver his heartfelt wishes to them.

On the afternoon of August 2, despite the hit of typhoon Nida, the last seminar of the conference continued as scheduled to discuss a key issue. The commitment of all scholars to science under such a bad weather impressed many people.
