Last month, the School of Medicine at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) started the first phase of teacher training for faculty members that will teach clinical medicine at the Affiliated Hospitals of SUSTech. In line with SUSTech’s bilingual approach to education, the Center for Language Education (CLE) worked with the School of Medicine to develop a series of activities and classes to help improve their English abilities.

School of Medicine Professor Zhang Wenyong welcomed all the clinicians from the affiliated hospitals who attended the teacher training activities. He emphasized the importance of this training for their future development and to benefit their medical education.

CLE Acting Director Li Yuan said that she would strongly support the School of Medicine in carrying out teacher training activities. She wanted to work together with the School of Medicine to provide an appropriate learning and communication platform for affiliated hospital clinicians, while also providing teachers with the opportunity to create clinical-medicine specific content for SUSTech.

CLE staff member Matthew Jellick has carefully designed the 8 lecture course, which will take 32 hours over the summer semester. After they complete his course, the clinicians will continue to receive training to support their English ability and enhance their clinical medicine skills.
