On the afternoon of September 29, 2016, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) made a presentation on postgraduate admission at the lecture hall of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), with the participation of some 150 students from SUSTech.
Betty Law, Head of Postgraduate Outreach & Admissions at HKUST, introduced the history, general situation, tutor team, project funds and exchange & cooperation programs of HKUST, as well as its joint postgraduate program with SUSTech. Prof. Gan Jianping at the School of Science, HKUST and Margaret Chau, Head of Research & Graduate Studies, School of Engineering, HKUST introduced the general situation of the School of Science and the School of Engineering respectively. HKUST encourages those aspiring students to constantly improve their research ability and English proficiency to be the most competitive doctoral candidates of HKUST, said Gan.

In the Q&A session, the students communicated their concerns with HKUST’s professors.
SUSTech and HKUST signed a doctoral training agreement in November 2015. Under this agreement, the two sides will jointly admit 20 doctoral candidates annually. They will study at both universities for two years each and will be directed by tutors from both countries. The 2016 class has opened. As a pilot university for the comprehensive reform of national higher education, SUSTech has transferred a lot of students to world-renowned universities and become an important source of outstanding students for HKUST.
