At the beginning of this month, the School of Microelectronics at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and UBTECH, a global leading AI and humanoid robotic Shenzhen based company, co-hosted a three-day robot summer camp.
Deputy Deans Professor Yu Hao and Professor Zhou Shengming of the SUSTech School of Microelectronics attended the closing ceremony, along with Macau University Assistant Professor Lu Yan and other assistant professors from the SUSTech School of Microelectronics.
The 2019 SME-UBTECH Robot Summer Camp had seven different groups, in which the groups of robots danced in a uniform style to different pre-programmed songs. Each group then presented their works, reflecting a variety of different dance moves, before the teachers voted on the winning group.
The winning group was called “Independent Caiji.” Their robots used a large range of motion that pushed the stability of the robots as far as possible. The group tweaked the actions and individual action times of each robot to ensure that they would remain upright.
Deputy Dean Yu Hao said that the summer camp was the start of the robotics project at SUSTech. He hoped that students would continue to explore and innovate in the field of robotics.
50 students, mainly majoring in microelectronics, mechanical engineering and robotics, took part in the summer camp. Subjects in the camp included programming languages like Python and Linux, as well as other modules on lighting and sensors. The summer camp sought to give students a good opportunity to learn about and experimenting with robots.
