At the 2019 International Symposium on Software Testing and Analysis (ISSTA 2019) held in Beijing, Assistant Professor Zhang Yuqun from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) received the Best Paper Award for his paper, “DeepFL: Integrating Multiple Fault Diagnosis Dimensions for Deep Fault Localization.”

The paper sought to examine different error location methods, in order to improve the efficiency of engineers finding and resolving program errors. By using deep learning techniques in different programs, the research team was able to develop a full understanding of individual programs and program errors.

Their superior error location method improved on previous best practice by more than 30% in all recognized indicators, while also showing significant results in cross-software experiments, an area that has promising commercial applications.

ISSTA is a leading international academic conference in software engineering (CCF-A) sponsored by ACMSIGSOFT and is listed as a Class A conference by the CCF (China Computer Federation). The paper was published by Zhang Lingming, an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Texas, and Dr. Zhang Yuqun. The first author was Li Xia, a Ph.D. student at the University of Texas, and the second author was Li Wei, a research assistant at the Computer Science Department of the University of SUSTech.
