Yesterday saw over one thousand graduate students from top universities across mainland China and around the world enter Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) to enroll for their upcoming postgraduate studies.

2019 is the debut of international postgraduate students on campus. 650 masters students and over 500 doctoral candidates have opted for a fresh academic outlook, coming from over 150 world-class universities, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Columbia University in the City of New York (Columbia University) and Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine (Imperial College London).

SUSTech Acting Vice President Zhang Dongxiao welcomed the newest postgraduate students, saying that this is a historic moment for SUSTech. Every department would work hard to provide the best academic and research environment for the incoming postgraduate students.

2019 masters student Tang Chao had graduated from SUSTech just 2 months earlier. He said that he wanted to stay at SUSTech because of its superior academic atmosphere and abundant research resources that would assist him down his chosen path.

Fellow 2019 masters student Chen Lin was entering SUSTech for the first time and was impressed by the campus environment and faculty members. This was what she was hoping for when she chose to come to SUSTech, and aims for the best possible outcome for the next chapter in her life.

The postgraduate students moved into their new dormitories after they finished their enrolment process. The new dormitories for postgraduate students feature facilities designed to facilitate a comfortable life on campus, both in their rooms and in the surrounding area. SUSTech Acting Vice President Zhang Dongxiao visited the new dormitories during the evening, with doctoral students commenting that they will be very happy here. The new dormitories are comfortable with good facilities and are ensconced in a beautiful environment.

There will be further orientation activities throughout the week to help students adapt quickly to life at SUSTech, including understanding the resources available to them.

SUSTech’s postgraduate educational model takes an interdisciplinary approach with both theoretical and practical considerations. Going forward, SUSTech will accelerate the development of its research laboratories and strive to provide better research conditions for postgraduate students.
