On November 18, 2016, SUSTech held a grand opening ceremony at the Athletic Field for the 2^nd Sports Meeting. The ceremony, presided over by Li Fengliang, Vice-Chairperson of University Council, was witnessed by Guo Yurong, Chairperson of University Council, Chen Shiyi, President of SUSTech, and all the teachers and students.

At the standby of all the performance arrays, an energetic Latin dance raised the curtain of the grand event.

Amid the applauses and cheers, the National Flag Team, leading 22 arrays, made an enthusiastic entry with vigorous steps and voices, echoing the passions from the Sportsmen March. Zhiren College, with military foxing performance, Zhicheng College, with cute mascot, Shuli College, with a Chinese-style dance and Graduate School, with energetic cheer aerobics, added numerous passions to this event and fully reflected the ambitious spirit of SUSTech.

Followed was the flag-raising ceremony with a chorus of National Anthem.

At the opening speech of Chen Shiyi, he extended congratulations to the successful opening of the 2^nd Sports Meeting and sincere gratitude to all the judges, participants and work staff for their great efforts. Despite the short founding history, he said, SUSTech attaches great importance to sports. Thanks to the increasing investment in sports infrastructures and public sports activities like “College Cup” Football Game and “President Cup” Badminton Game, SUSTech now sees a good atmosphere of sports. He also expected all the teachers and students to pay attention to physical exercises and develop a life-long sport for an overall enhancement on physical and mental basis in the pursuit of building the best university of the world.

Wang Zhiyuan, the representative of participants, made an oath that “Friendship is Prior to Game” to appeal to a high-standard performance. Sun Yan, the representative of judges, solemnly promised to strictly fulfil the responsibilities in a serious, careful, fair and accurate manner.

Guo Yurong announces the beginning of the 2^nd Sports Meeting

The 16 teams, composed of 276 students and 333 faculties, had fierce competitions in 53 games like track, field and tug of war, earning massive applauses and cheers for their excellent performance. At this meeting, 3,000m male and 800m female were added into the game list.

Upon fierce rivalries, Shude College, Shuren College and Zhicheng College won the top three in total score of student teams, and Chemical Faculty, Administrative Service I and Administrative Service II won the top three in total score of faculty teams.

During the event, all the teams fully demonstrated their spirit of cohesion, unity and seriousness. Shuli College, Department of Biology, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Preparatory Office Faculty Team of Medical School won the High Morality Award; and the Department of Mathematics and the Faculty Team of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering won the Sports Ethic Award.
