SUSTech Achieved Good Results in Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling and Chinese Mathematics Competitions

In 2016 Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling and Chinese Mathematics Competitions (Guangdong), SUSTech achieved new heights, wining several national and provincial awards.

Under the guidance of Li Jingzhi, Associate Professor of Mathematics Department and Jiang Xuejun, Assistant Professor of Mathematics Department, 7 teams were awarded in 2016 Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, of which 2 won the second prize on state level and first prize on provincial level, 2 won second prize on provincial level and 2 won the third prize on provincial level. 17 students bore the palm in 2016 Chinese Mathematics Competitions, of which 3 won the first prize (Tan Hongze entered the finals), 3 won the second prize and 3 won the third prize for mathematical major; 2 won the second prize and 6 won the third prize for non-mathematical major. The remarkable results were attributed to SUSTech’s support, student’s efforts and hard work of teachers, such as the trainings and tutorship of teachers for mathematical modelling in July and August and their active promotion, competitions, selection and trainings to students in weekends and summer vacation. For now, the mathematical modelling competition is extended to various departments and majors, in a bid to develop the opportunities for mathematical learning and application and effectively the undergraduate’s ability in innovative practice and teamwork.
