Shenzhen Special Zone Daily: 14 teachers of SUSTech included in Recruitment Program of Global Young Experts

Shenzhen Special Zone Daily (Reporter Huang Fuping)–Yesterday the 13th group of young experts included in the Recruitment Program of Global Young Experts was unveiled. More than 600 experts from 137 universities and research institutions across the country passed the final review, and Shenzhen has 24 experts on the list. Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was ranked ninth in the country with 14 teachers included.

40 percent of SUSTech’s faculty has been included in the Recruitment Program of Global Experts and the Recruitment Program of Global Young Experts. SUSTech has introduced some 260 signed teachers, of whom more than 90 percent have overseas working experience, and more than 60 percent worked or studied at world top 100 universities. SUSTech’s faculty includes 14 academicians (10 introduced in 2016, seven work full time at SUSTech), 34 included in the Recruitment Program of Global Experts, 13 winners of the “National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars”, 60 included in the Recruitment Program of Global Young Experts and 147 included in Shenzhen’s “Peacock Program”.

Background

The Recruitment Program of Global Young Experts is a program initiated by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee to introduce some promising outstanding young talents from abroad. It started in 2011 and planned to introduce some 400 outstanding overseas young talents annually, but the number differed vastly every year. 601 were proposed to be introduced in 2016.

The program applicants shall research on natural science or engineering, be under the age of 40, have obtained PhD degrees from prestigious foreign universities or have worked abroad for some years. The central finance grants every entrant a living allowance of 500,000 yuan, and a three-year research subsidy of one to three million yuan. Other work conditions and living benefits shall be subject to the current program policies.
