SUSTech holds 2017 “New Year’s Luncheon” faculty members and students celebrate Chinese New Year together

As south winds bring warmth, intelligence is inspired and ease and comfort is enjoyed. At noon on January 27, 2017, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) held 2017 the Spring Festival “New Year’s Luncheon” in the student canteen. Chairperson of the University Council Guo Yurong, President Chen Shiyi and other university leaders, together with teaching and administrative staff, students, parent representatives and kinship representatives – more than 500 people in total – gathered together to ring out the Old Year and ring in the New one. A number of visiting academicians, as well as academicians who stay at university for the Spring Festival, including academician Bai Yilong, Li Anmin, Pan Jianwei and Yu Dapeng were also invited. Vice-Chairperson of the University Council Li Fengliang presided over the event.

At noon on the eve of Chinese lunar New Year, the student canteen was full of happiness. Red lanterns written with “spring”, painted with golden roosters and auspicious clouds, together with joyous little lanterns hung around, creating a joyous and harmonious festive air. The teachers and students who have stayed at the university during the holiday enjoyed delicacies cooked by the canteen chefs and exchanged greetings. The site was full of laughter, and they shared the joy of the New Year and wished for a better tomorrow together with the guests.


Guo Yurong’s Speech

Guo Yurong, on behalf of the University Council, sent the New Year blessings to students and extended sincere greetings to service staffs who stayed at work during the festival. She said that Shenzhen was as warm as spring. Staff, teachers and students would soon feel the vibrant greenery of nature around SUSTech. In the past year of the Monkey, SUSTech developed rapidly. She hoped SUSTech would achieve even better results in the new year.

Chen Shiyi’s Speech

Subsequently, Chen Shiyi made a speech. He wished all faculty and students a Happy New Year, and wished all university teachers and students good fortune in the year of the Rooster and all the best. He also wished the development of SUSTech would reach a higher level.
Vice President Qin Zheng, Chief Financial Officer Director Ye Qin, Associate Vice President & Director of Residential College Han Wei, Secretary General Wang Yongjie, as well as relevant heads of various departments and the administration also attended the New Year’s Luncheon.
