“Road to the south, chasing the light of dreams, this is our future, our voice will be heard…”
These are some of the lyrics that come from a song, named “Dream on the road.” It was presented prior to the 2019 SUSTech Convocation. 70 young student singers all dressed in white and blue to show their energy. Warm applause filled the gymnasium as they sang.
On the cusp of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, 70 SUSTech students, most of whom were freshmen, sang together to express their love to the country and the expectation for their brand new start. The song conveyed in an artistic way that in the face of new opportunities in Shenzhen, SUSTech students and staff strive to be responsible, confident and innovative to achieve the mission of the new era.
The song is written by Shenzhen musicians. Lyricist Wang Jun is currently the vice chairman of the Wenshan Federation of Shenzhen Nanshan District and the vice chairman of the Futian District Musicians Association. Music studio team Jimuyu composed the arrangement. The team frequently travels abroad on behalf of Shenzhen musicians and has composed songs for famous singers in China.
The four lead singers of “Dream on the road,” Deng Guihang, Shu Huazhang, He Wenqian, and Feng Chenxi are the sophomores and juniors, and the remaining 66 choir members are 2019 undergraduate freshmen.
“I am very happy to participate in the chorus together with the freshmen!” Deng Guihang, a student from Class of 2021, said. “When practicing the song these days, I feel like that I have returned to the summer in 2017, that was my first day to SUSTech. This song encourages me to seize my dreams at SUSTech.”
Chang Bohan, a freshman who participated in the chorus, said that he was honored to sing on stage. “‘Dream on the road’ not only describes the stories of the freshmen who came all the way to SUSTech, but also express our love to SUSTech and the country. We will try our best to achieve success here.”
“Now that I am finally here, I found everything here just pleased me and exciting. I am proud of SUSTech!”
