SUSTech,February 19: Over 200 faculty members of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) gathered together and attended an intensive two-day seminar  over the two-day period, during which the university’s 2017 spring term strategic planning was unveiled.

During the seminar, eight keynote speeches were made on building SUSTech into a top-tier international university of science and engineering, on integrated marketing communications, undergraduate teaching, research management and academy building, graduate school development and on efficient administrative support.

Guo Yurong, SUSTech Council Chairperson, and Chen Shiyi, President of the university, co-hosted the seminar which aimed to analyze SUSTech’s current strategic position and prospects. Specifically, seminar members identified recent successes and failures of the university, as well as key questions to be answered throughout the planning process.

“The strategic plan is for the future operations of SUSTech,” Guo said, when asked for comment. “It is being developed by the senior leadership and all the faculty members”.

In his report, President Chen summarized the university’s collective achievements in 2016, put forward the present objectives and stated the challenges which may hinder the university’s progress in 2017.

As SUSTech implements its 2017 spring term strategic plan that provides a vision for the university in 2017, a series of group discussions were held to pool ideas on putting the plan into action. Faculty members were invited to the discussion and were divided into five groups.

In order to promote the competitiveness of SUSTech domestically and globally, the strategy includes a series of plans including:

·To advance strategic cooperation with Johns Hopkins University on the establishment of the SUSTech Medical School.

·To further promote the Phase 2 of the campus development program.

·To focus on the key discipline constructions.

         ·To keep introducing high-level talents.

·To make solid progress in building the first-class discipline.

·To build platforms for research and innovation.

·To further improve the talent training system.

·To strengthen the international cooperation and exchanges.
