On March 31st 2017, SUSTech held the first International Pain Medecine Forum to mark the opening of the research center right here at the university. Among the list of famous invitees were:

as well as a number of other experts, scholars and directors of relevant departments of SUSTech.
SUSTech Chairwoman and party secretary Guo Yurong and SUSTech President Chen Shiyi met the experts at the conference and used the opportunity to unveil the opening of the SUSTech Center for Pain Medecine. The forum was presided over by Song Xuejun, Director of the newly opened center.
Speaking at the forum, Pr. Chen welcomed all the guests and thanked them for their support and attention to the development of the new center at SUSTech. He said this center will play a crucial role in the industry, bringing closer together university students, professors, hospital staff and pharmaceutical professionals to collaborate together and make progress in the field of pain relief. The “research – medical – enterprise” collaborative core is one of the key innovations that SUSTech is building, bringing together talent, technology and funding to benefit progress in science.
This will be a platform to support the development of new drugs, medical infrastructure, and other crucial areas which require knowledge, innovation and entrepreneurship. The center’s research will focus on developing comprehensive studies on pain and clinical research, pain transformation and application, analgesic and non-analgesic methods of treatment, pain medical education and international communication, and clinical pain management, among various other fields.

President Chen went on to discuss the establishment of the SUSTech Center for Pain Medecine, alongside the deputy secretary Li Fengliang, deputy-mayor of Nanshan district Bao Changhan, and various other key participants as a major announcement for the university.

Li Fengliang was at the meeting to announce the appointments for SUSTech’s center, where notable consultants and academic committee members were named and issued letters of appointment, such as Han Jisheng, named Honorary Director of the Academic Committee, Song Xuejun named center director, Yang Xiongli as director of the Academic Committee, and various other members as consultants for the center.

The congratulation letters and speeches followed with various prestigious partners intervening to show their support and enthusiasm about SUSTech’s leading role in the industry, including the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the National Health Commission, and the International Association for the Study of Pain, whose President Judy Turner – also Professor at Washington University – sent a congratulatory letter signed by herself as well as a video message. After the establishment and inauguration of the Center, the first International Pain Medecine Forum and the first academic committee of SUSTech were held in the International Conference Hall from March 31 to April 1. Yang Xiongli, Han Jisheng and Robert LaMotte gave lectures respectively entitled “Thinking about the Prospects of Brain Science”, “Current Status of Chinese Pain Medicine” and “The Origin of Autism”, with the presence and participation of 18 internationally recognized experts in the field of pain medicine and clinical experts for an overall wonderful academic and scientific event.
