In the new era, scientific and technological developments at institutions of higher education play a vital role in the development of nations. Basic research must seek to solve scientific problems that can benefit society. Lei Chaozi added that SUSTech should find their position in the global university market as part of their wider innovative plans. Simultaneously, SUSTech must remain cognizant of the major strategic needs of the region and the nation in order to make greater contributions to society.

In separate speeches, Li Yuhong and Zou Hui talked about the impressive achievements and rapid development of SUSTech. They recommended that SUSTech take full advantage of the opportunities and resources available to them in driving their strategic direction for superior disciplines and developing unique research directions, thus serving the development of nationally strategic industries.

Prior to the meeting, the MoE delegation visited the 3D campus construction sand table, where SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson gave a briefing on the plans for SUSTech. Li Fengliang pointed out that SUSTech’s development is inseparable from the support of the MoE, and will continue to explore and innovate its systems, with the broad goal of building a world-class research university, rooted in China.
