The 20th Session of the “Outreach Club Cup” National College English Debate Contest for the South China Division was held over a 3-day period in Huanggang Normal College. It covered the regions of Central and Southern China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, with a total of 111 college debate teams competing.
SUSTech students Wang Jiuzhou and Xu Yizi represented the university for the first time and truly lived up to the expectations. After five rounds of fierce debating, they won the South China Division’s second prize, and a spot in the National Finals which will take place in Beijing in May. Their instructor – Lisa Liu – also participated in the event as a judge, and was praised for her outstanding performance as well.
The “Outreach Club Cup” National College English Debate Contest has been held annually since 1997, it is jointly organized by the Communist Youth League Central Committee, the National Union and the Beijing Foreign Studies University. The competition is one of the most popular in the industry and along with the “World University Debate Competition” it is currently one of the most highly recognized English language debate contests.
