National Research Foundation of Korea visited SUSTech

Last week, the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) was welcomed to Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). The NRF delegation was led by President Jung-Hye Roe, and was joined by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) International Cooperation Fund (Asian & African Division) Director Professor Zhang Lejun. SUSTech was represented by Acting Vice President Zhao Yusheng, Biology Department Head Chen Hao, Office of Research Deputy Director Zheng Yan, School of Medicine Director Wang Peng and other key officials across campus.

At the meeting, Acting Vice President Zhao Yusheng welcomed the NRF and NSFC leaders to SUSTech. He pointed out the high levels of cooperation that SUSTech had with top universities and research institutions around the world as part of its quest to become a world-class research university, rooted in China.

Office of Research Deputy Director Zheng Yan provided a briefing about SUSTech, covering a wide range of areas. Biology Department Head Chen Wei, School of Medicine Chair Professor Wang Peng and Biology Associate Professor Zhang Yongmin spoke about the history and research situations in their respective departments.

NRF President Jung-hye Roe congratulated SUSTech on its achievements and rapid development in its short history. He hoped that SUSTech and the NRF would be able to carry out in depth and interdisciplinary research partnerships in areas such as medicine and life sciences. Jung-hye Roe also looked forward to SUSTech’s cooperation with combined NRF-NSFC projects in both basic and applied research.

Associate Professor Jaewon Park from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering accompanied the NRF delegation, and shared his experience as the first cohort of non-Chinese foreign teachers at SUSTech.
