SUSTech – ICBC Foundation Financial Forum deemed big success

Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) recently hosted its first SUSTech-ICBC Foundation Financial Forum, with many industry heads, SUSTech department heads, scholars and students joining Planning and Development Office Director Wang Susheng, ICBC (Shenzhen) Vice President and SUSTech Education Foundation (SUSTechEF) trustee Yao Yuping, Technology Transfer Center Director Zhang Zuotai at the forum, that was chaired by SUSTechEF Secretary-General Tu Ronghui.

Planning and Development Office Director Wang Susheng thanked all the distinguished guests and scientifically inclined start-ups for joining the forum. He briefed the audience about SUSTech’s latest achievements, and spoke about the innovative genes that are shared by SUSTech and ICBC. There is significant scope for cooperation between SUSTech and ICBC for industry-university research that supports the development of science and technology through a variety of platforms that support societal progress.

ICBC (Shenzhen) Vice President and SUSTech Education Foundation (SUSTechEF) trustee Yao Yuping was appointed as an industry tutor by Wang Susheng. Yao Yuping addressed the forum, saying he relished both the glory and responsibilities of his new role. He spoke about the ICBC Science and Technology Enterprise Service Center and its role in supporting technology-based enterprises as part of its social responsibilities. ICBC will actively explore new paths and models of financial and technological development. Yao Yuping also talked about the opportunities that have arisen from the Greater Bay Area and the State Council Statement on Shenzhen. ICBC will collaborate with SUSTech in many areas for industry-university research platforms, the transformation of research achievements and incubation of entrepreneurial talents.

Technology Transfer Center Director Zhang Zuotai chaired a round table on industry-university cooperation that saw Yao Yuping joined by 5 other luminaries from industry, academia and finance to discuss industry-university cooperation and the future of scientific and technological enterprises. All six attendees shared their rich experience in a diverse set of fields.

Economist and former president of the Chinese University of Hong Kong Professor Lawrence J. Lau gave a keynote speech that touched on the global finance and industry-university cooperation situations.
