The Center for Language Education (CLE) at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) worked with the SUSTech School of Medicine to host a Reception and Ceremony for three partner hospitals which participated in a Teacher Training Seminar. Doctors and dignitaries from the Shenzhen People’s Hospital (First Affiliated Hospital of SUSTech), the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen (Second Affiliated Hospital of SUSTech), and SUSTech Hospital were all in attendance, as well as university leadership, including SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang, School of Medicine Dean Dr. Xing Mingzhao, and School of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean Professor Chen Yuehong.
Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between the CLE and the School of Medicine, praising their efforts to develop an English training program for SUSTech’s medical community.School of Humanities and Social Science Dean Professor Chen Yuehong also spoke of collaboration, saying, that “this was a very important beginning for SUSTech, since it strives to develop its new engineering, medicine, science and liberal arts programs.”

Speaking on behalf of their respective hospitals, Shenzhen People’s Hospital (First Affiliated Hospital of SUSTech) Vice President of Medical Education Dr. Liang Zhen, Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen (Second Affiliated Hospital of SUSTech) Vice President Dr. Liu Yingxia and SUSTech Hospital Vice President of Medical Education Dr. Wang Yukun all spoke of the power of education, and how it can be translated into good teaching practices as doctors learn about strong pedagogical techniques.

School of Medicine Professor Xing Mingzhao and Director of Teaching Professor Zhang Wenyong echoed the notion of learning as a lifelong tool, agreeing that interactive teaching practices can render better teaching outcomes for medical education. They encouraged those in attendance to continue to utilize teaching strengths within their classrooms. Doctors from each of the respective hospitals received certificates for their completion of the Teaching Program, handed out by the SUSTech School of Medicine Dean Professor Xing Mingzhao.

CLE has molded itself into a collaborative partner with different departments for developing excellence of teaching in English under the leadership of Director Li Yuan.
