SUSTech and Xidian co-host major electronic science State Council meeting in Shenzhen

Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and Xidian University worked together to co-host the 4th meeting of the 7th Electronic Science & Technology Discipline Review Group (Review Group) and the University Graduate Training & Exchange Conference in Shenzhen. SUSTech Acting Vice President Zhang Dongxiao and Degree Office Director of the Education Department of Guangdong Province Ouyang Qian attended the meeting along with nearly one hundred experts from more than 50 universities around mainland China. Chinese Academy of Sciences Academician & Convener of the Review Group Hao Yue presided over the meeting.

SUSTech Acting Vice President Zhang Dongxiao welcomed the Review Group and provided a briefing about SUSTech, covering a wide range of issues. The experts gave their own insights into the development of the first-level discipline of electronic science and technology.

Degree Office Director of the Education Department of Guangdong Province Ouyang Qian pointed out the significant scale of Guangdong’s electronic information industry and that it had been vital to the country’s development for many years. The cultivation of high-end talent pipelines in electronic science and technology will improve the sustainable development of the industry, and he hoped that the attending scholars & experts would continue to support electronic science throughout Guangdong Province.

In-depth discussions took place on many topics relating to electronic science and technology. Deputy Dean of the Graduate School of Xidian University Wang Shuang wrote the report titled “Quality and Management of Postgraduate Education,” which dealt with four specific aspects. SUSTech Head of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Sun Xiaowei reported on “The Status and Future Prospects of Electronic Science and Technology at SUSTech.”

As part of the discussion sessions, experts & scholars examined how postgraduate education can meet the needs of industry, and how to generate differentiation between academic & professional degrees. They also discussed postgraduate training standards and integrating disciplines. As part of the broader meeting, the sharing of knowledge has accelerated the opportunities for new and innovative training methods for postgraduate training.
