Teaching Steering Committee of Materials Science of Guangdong Undergraduate Universities meets at SUSTech

Over the weekend, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was the host venue for the first meeting of the Undergraduate Teaching Steering Committee of Materials Science for the universities in Guangdong. SUSTech Acting Vice President Zhang Dongxiao attended the meeting with 19 members from universities and businesses across Guangdong Province.

SUSTech Acting Vice President Zhang Dongxiao spoke about SUSTech’s unique features and characteristics, dealing with a wide range of questions from those in attendance. He highlighted the role that the materials sciences major had played at SUSTech, and that the establishment of the Steering Committee provides significant opportunities for improving teaching at SUSTech and its colleague universities across Guangdong Province.

Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Head Cheng Xing went into more detail about his department’s features. It has long had the goal of building an internationally recognized talent training and scientific research base in new materials. MSE adheres to a student-centered, personalized curriculum with a global outlook, as it strives to cultivate the future leaders of the new era.

The members of the Teaching Steering Committee spoke about what was happening in their respective institutions when it comes to materials science. There was significant discussion about the direction of the Teaching Steering Committee, the development of the materials science curriculum and talent pipelines, as well as how to best use their resources.
