SUSTech badminton team comes second in city-wide amateur competition

Over the weekend, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) faculty badminton team took part in the 2019 Tianjian Cup, the Shenzhen Amateur Badminton Mixed Team Competition. The competition had 25 club teams from across the city, competing at the highest level of amateur badminton in Shenzhen. This was SUSTech’s debut appearance in the tournament and finished 2nd after five rounds of fierce competition.

The SUSTech Faculty Badminton Club is an amateur society made up of badminton fans from the faculty and staff of the SUSTech community. There are more than 90 members of the Club, with SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang operating as the honorary president and Department of Physics Head He Jiaqing serving as club president.

The club has many activities each week, including different training sessions and activities. They hold regular competitions each semester, while having friendly tournaments against other universities. SUSTech has also enjoyed the presence of national champions Zhou Yidong and Han Chenghao to encourage the members.
