From November 22 to 24, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) worked with Sun Yat-sen University as co-hosts of the 22nd Central South China Electron Microscopy Conference (Conference) and the annual meeting of the 2019 Guangdong Electron Microscopy Society (Meeting). Department of Physics Head and College of Science Vice Dean He Jiaqing chaired the conference with Sun Yat-sen University compatriots Zhao Wenxia and Yao Nan. About 150 experts and scholars from across mainland China and the Greater Bay Area participated in the Conference.

The opening ceremony of the Conference took place on November 23, with Professor He Jiaqing presiding over the opening ceremony and SUSTech Vice President Lu Chun welcoming all the attendees. He covered the history of SUSTech, introducing both the Pico Center and the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center.

Vice President Lu Chun invited the attending scholars and experts to visit SUSTech, while also encouraging them to partake in stronger academic exchanges in the future to take electron microscopy in China to a higher level.

Sun Yat-sen University Professor Zhao Wenxia (Guangdong Electron Microscopy Society Chairman) added that they were the earliest society for electron microscopy in the country. She hoped that the Conference would see high-level discussions of research and development directions. China has contributed significantly and injected new vitality into the development of electron microscopy.

Many high level reports were given by professors, experts and scholars from distinguished institutions such as Tsinghua University, South China University of Technology, Hunan University, City University of Hong Kong, Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, SUSTech and the Guangzhou Institute of Health.

A campus tour took place on November 24th with the tour incorporating the Pico Center & Cryo-EM Center. The attending scholars were highly impressed by the achievements and development of SUSTech in such a short period of time, particularly their ability to build world-class scientific research platforms.
