November 27 saw Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) welcome Ministry of Education (MoE) Department of Development Planning Deputy Director Lou Xuqing and National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Department of Social Development Deputy Director Cai Changhua to campus. SUSTech President Chen Shiyi and Acting Vice President Zhang Dongxiao welcomed the delegation. Other provincial and SUSTech leaders also attended the meeting.
SUSTech President Chen Shiyi spoke proudly of SUSTech’s achievements in developing talent pipelines, training staff, scientific research, industry-university research collaborations and internationalization. He pointed that SUSTech’s philosophy of “research, innovation and entrepreneurship” supports the development of interdisciplinary research in many new fields. SUSTech would continue to strengthen its industry-university research partnerships as it strives to build a world-class research university rooted in China that contributes to national scientific research innovation and development.
MoE Department of Development Planning Deputy Director Lou Xuqing congratulated SUSTech on its achievements and hoped that it would continue to increase its investments in industry-university research. The promotion of science and technology will support Shenzhen in the construction of a pioneering demonstration zone that will provide China with the ability to progress in its development and modernization.
NDRC Department of Social Development Deputy Director Cai Changhua explained that the delegation had to come to SUSTech to learn about the innovative talent pipeline development practices of the University. SUSTech’s significant progress in recent years was important for the NDRC to understand, in order to make positive and useful contributions to higher education innovation.
Later in the day, the delegation visited the School of System Design and Intelligent Manufacturing (SDIM), the Aerospace Propulsion Institute, the Institute of Robotics and the Lakeside Residential Colleges.
