On December 20, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) hosted the “Ode to the Motherland” symphony concert at Runyang Stadium. SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang, Vice President Lu Chun, Communications & Public Relations Director Zhang Ling, and other leaders from across SUSTech joined officials from Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (TSIGS), Shenzhen University (SZU) and Taoyuan Subdistrict Office at the event. More than one thousand students and Shenzhen citizens also attended the concert.

SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang opened the concert by welcoming the choirs and orchestras to SUSTech. The achievements of SUSTech are a reflection of the development of Shenzhen over the last forty years and of China in the previous seventy years.

The concert has more than one hundred students from choirs at TSIGS, SZU, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School (PKUSZGS), and SUSTech performing together. Renowned composer Yao Feng served as conductor, and the choir was accompanied by the Shenzhen Grand Theatre Philharmonic Orchestra.

Following Li Fengliang’s address, the choir performed numerous songs that filled the audience with joy and love for the country. The songs were dedicated to the young people that had toiled in building the nation over the previous seventy years and encouraged the audience to continue working hard for their futures. The beautiful melodies and lyrics reflected the deep historical times of every audience member to the founding of the People’s Republic of China, inspiring them to feel the development of the country.

The final song of the night saw the SUSTech National Flag Guards bring the national flag to the stage, and a wave of patriotism filled the stadium. The audience stood as one to sing “My Motherland and Me,” a piece that wishes for a prosperous China now and into the future for eternity.

The concert was hosted in conjunction with the Taoyuan Subdistrict Office, Nanshan District. It was organized by the Communications and Public Relations Office, Student Affairs Office, Political Education and Research Center, and the Arts Center.
