On December 16, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Academician Liu Yunqi came to Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) to give the 250th lecture in the SUSTech Lecture Series about “high mobility polymer semiconductor: materials, devices and application prospects.” Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Deputy Head Chair Professor Wang Hong.

Professor Liu Yunqi is mainly engaged in the design and synthesis of molecular materials. He has published more than 600 SCI papers and been cited more than 30,000 times. Professor Liu has had 70 Chinese invention patents authorized. Since 2014, he has been continuously selected as a Global Highly Cited Scientists.

In the lecture, Liu Yunqi briefly introduced the basic device unit of electronics, the working principles, and the applications of the organic field-effect transistor. He pointed out that molecular material devices are one of the fastest-growing fields in the world and have substantial market prospects. By 2027, the market size of the field-effect transistor will exceed US$45 billion, and more than 3000 institutions are engaged in the research and commercialization of printed electronics. Mobility is an important physical parameter of semiconductor materials and is directly related to the application.

Professor Liu introduced functional devices such as low operating voltage devices, light sensors that mimic human eye functions, organic synaptic devices, rod-coated oriented polymer semiconductor films, hydroxyl radical detectors, and chiral pesticide sensors.

At the end of the lecture, Professor Liu analyzed the prospects and challenges of field-effect transistors. He encouraged SUSTech students to conduct interdisciplinary studies.

After his lecture, he took many questions from the audience.
