SUSTech launches reading pavilions
Chris Edwards | 09/07/2019

Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) recently set up two “reading pavilions” outside the Lynn Library and the Lakeside Colleges to encourage the students and staff of SUSTech to improve their reading skills and enhance the cultural atmosphere of SUSTech.

Within just days of the launch, hundreds of members of the SUSTech community has experimented with the Reading Pavilions by reading segments of famous pieces of literature.

The Reading Pavilions are designed to look like small recording studios, with microphones, headphones and two high-backed chairs that invite the feeling of reading aloud. Works can be shared in real-time through social networks, encouraging further participation in the activity.

The Reading Pavilions offers more than forty thousand documents from a vast database of resources, in Chinese, English, German, French, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, and Thai. One highly popular section has been the English training assessment, which has seen students adapt to listening and speaking tests as they prepare for further academic pursuits overseas.

The Reading Pavilions are part of SUSTech’s broader work in promoting culture on campus and is one of the fifteen cultural landmarks for 2019.
