On January 30, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) University Council convened a standing committee meeting to discuss the prevention of infection from the recent Novel Coronavirus infection (2019-nCoV) in mainland China and amended working arrangements for the safety of the SUSTech community. Chairperson Guo Yurong and President Chen Shiyi led the leadership members to set the details of the teaching and learning arrangements.

The meeting fully affirmed the effectiveness of prevention and control work in the previous two work meetings held on January 21 and 24. At present, SUSTech has issued six notices, while carrying out a comprehensive investigation of university members.

The entire SUSTech community has been filling in questionnaires, and reduced visitor numbers to campus have helped reduce risks. All staff and faculty members are required to report their health daily, to provide further data for the prevention and control of 2019-nCoV.

The meeting heard a report on the prevention and control of 2019-nCoV on campus before discussing arrangements for the 2019-20 spring semester.

The Meeting resolved to appoint Chairperson Guo Yurong and President Chen Shiyi as leaders of the SUSTech 2019-nCoV Prevention Working Group. It has set up an executive office with 13 working teams – each team seeking to safeguard the health of the SUSTech community.

SUSTech has also opted to extend the Winter Break, in line with national, provincial, and municipal regulations. Classes shall resume on February 26th for all students (tentative).

Students can return the campus between February 24 and February 25. Students must not return to the university before the designated date.

The Meeting also discussed undergraduate and postgraduate teaching arrangements along with further measures for online classrooms during the postponement period.

The Meeting requested that all offices and departments fulfill their responsibilities in 2019-nCoV prevention and control.
