Recently, SUSTech won the title of 2016-2017 May Fourth Red-banner Youth League, which was awarded by the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) and the Shenzhen Municipal Committee. Two Residential Colleges, Zhixin College and Shude College, Mr. Lai Xiaodong, Deputy secretary of the CYL of SUSTech, and Mr. Wei Tianzi, the 14’ undergrad have been recognized for their efforts to further the development of the League.

CYL is China’s national organization for youth and students. Chinese top leaders and Party and government authorities have been giving great support to the country’s students and younger generation through the development of the CYL.

Started from 2015, SUSTech’s CYL held an extensive series of activities such as organizing the scientific and technological competitions for innovation, visiting large companies and entrepreneurial challenges. The SUSTech CYL also provided help to the students to apply for various scholarships, including the funds for Science, Technology and Innovation. In 2015, a fund of 85,000 RMB was approved by the CYLC Guangdong, and the total fund number went up to 465,000 RMB in 2016, and 935,000 RMB in 2017.

The two awarded Residential Colleges(RCs), Zhixin College and Shude College, set their goals in developing young talents in innovation and entrepreneurship while at the same time enhancing the Volunteer Service Activity to lead non-profit projects. During 2016, the RCs embraced the city’s entrepreneurship spirit with a series of lectures, and set up a 3D printing group, robotics group and aerospace group. As a result, the groups raised public awareness with its participation in the 2016 National Mass Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week in Shenzhen.
