From December 2019 to March 2020, the smart classrooms jointly built by Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), UNESCO International Centre for Higher Education Innovation (UNESCO-ICHEI), and Weidong Cloud Education Group were put into operation successfully at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, Ain Shams University, University of Djibouti, and Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP).
Smart classrooms provide advanced interactive teaching recording and broadcasting systems for institutions. They are equipped with a specialized learning management system and an interaction system that supports multi-camera recording and post-production. The classroom is a combination of ICT and higher education innovation.
Smart Classroom at UET Lahore, Pakistan
Leaders of partner institutions and education ministries in host countries have been attracted to the smart classrooms and their implementation. Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Professor Fazal Ahmad Khalid proposed that it would continue to expand the project with the help of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Ain Shams University President Professor Mahmoud El-Metini and Chancellor Professor Abdel Fattah joined the smart classroom training. An official delegation led by Minister of Higher Education and Research Dr. Nabil Mohamed Ahmed and faculties led by the University of Djibouti President Dr. Djama Mohamed Hassan witnessed the construction and training of their smart classroom. Cambodian Under-Secretary of the State, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS), H.E. Dr. Sann Vathana led a delegation to the smart classroom, saying the RUPP smart classroom acts as the best practice of collaborating ICT and higher education in Cambodia.
The smart classroom project is expected to expand, in 2020 to:
– the University of Colombo (Sri Lanka);
– Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia);
– Mongolian University of Science and Technology (Mongolia);
– University of Nairobi (Kenya);
– Makerere University (Uganda);
