On March 26, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO led a team to Guangming District to assess the innovative practices being undertaken as they develop the Guangming Science City for the benefit of Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area. Guangming District Deputy Head Hongbin WANG met the SUSTech delegation. Senior leaders from SUSTech and the Guangming district government attended the meeting as part of the visit.

SUSTech has supported Guangming District for many years. During the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, several members of the SUSTech community went to Guangming to assist in a variety of ways to keep people safe during the epidemic.

Chairperson Yurong GUO and the SUSTech delegation first went to the Matian Sub-district Office to thank the SUSTechers who had supported Guangming District, while also receiving a briefing on the fight against COVID-19.

The SUSTech delegation continued onto Guangming Science City Exhibition Center, where they learned more about its development plans. Guangming Science City will develop into a national science center, housing major scientific and technological infrastructure for significant research projects. It will promote innovative industry-university research for the development of the Greater Bay Area University, the Greater Bay Area International Innovation Center for Science and Technology, and a wide array of platforms for scientific and technological development.

A meeting between the SUSTech delegation and the leaders of Guangming district centered around their ongoing fight against COVID-19 and the cooperation between both parties for Guangming Science City.

Guangming District Deputy Head Hongbin WANG thanked SUSTech for their support, saying that the cooperation between SUSTech and Guangming District will see Guangming Science City play an essential role in the development of Shenzhen as a pioneering demonstration zone.

SUSTech University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO thanked Guangming District for their ongoing support for SUSTech and the preliminary work behind the construction of the Guangming Science City. SUSTech will continue to build deep connections with industry to promote shared scientific research resources for the development of an innovative country and a modern Shenzhen.
