SUSTech hosted the ceremony with the Health Commission of Shenzhen Municipality (Municipal Health Commission), the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention (SZCDC), and the 2nd Affiliated Hospital of SUSTech to announce its co-construction.

Municipal Health Commission Director Lexuan LUO, SUSTech President Shiyi CHEN, SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson Fengliang LI, SUSTech Vice President Chun LU, and SUSTech Acting Vice President Dongfeng GU were among the dignitaries who attended the signing ceremonies.

SUSTech President Shiyi CHEN and Municipal Health Commission Director Lexuan LUO signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU).

Following that, SUSTech Affiliated Hospital Preparatory Office Director Pengfei WANG, 2nd Affiliated Hospital of SUSTech President Lei LIU, and SZCDC Director Junjie XIA signed a cooperation agreement to jointly establish the School.

Municipal Health Commission Director Lexuan LUO said that the development of the School would further support Shenzhen’s health and healthcare resources. SUSTech had been a strong partner in the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) through its scientific and technological resources. The School is an essential measure for further improving Shenzhen’s emergency management system, and through the joint effort of all parties, Shenzhen’s public health undertakings will significantly improve.

SUSTech President Shiyi CHEN said that the tripartite cooperation between SUSTech, the SZCDC, and the 2nd Affiliated Hospital of SUSTech would lead to excellent opportunities for talent cultivation within the School, while further supporting national public health and emergency management systems. SUSTech will be a cooperative partner in the construction of a world-class public health and emergency management college that will train more top healthcare professionals for the benefit of society.

2nd Affiliated Hospital of SUSTech President Lei LIU pointed out that the construction of the School will further drive talent development within the public health sector of Shenzhen. The 2nd Affiliated Hospital will continue to contribute to the development of Shenzhen’s public health and emergency management system through its tripartite cooperation with the School and SZCDC.

SZCDC Director Junjie XIA looked forward to the complementary relationship that would be forged through each party’s unique advantages while sharing resources. The creation of a new model of public health talent cultivation will integrate government, education, research, prevention, and application in China. The Greater Bay Area will provide a broad set of human resources to create a world-class public health and emergency management school of international influence.

SUSTech Acting Vice President and Chinese Preventive Medicine Association Vice President Dongfeng GU said after the ceremony that preventative medicine and public health are fundamental keys to modern medical science. The SUSTech School of Public Health and Emergency Management will build on existing fields such as infectious diseases, public health prevention and control, and clinical treatment. The tripartite cooperation in scientific research, medical treatment, and prevention will provide synergies through connected resources that will ultimately result in the fostering of preventative healthcare personnel with both theoretical foundations and practical skills designed for the emergency management issues of the future.

Other senior officials in attendance included SUSTech Affiliated Hospital Preparatory Office Director Pengfei WANG, 2nd Affiliated Hospital of SUSTech President Lei LIU, SZCDC Director Junjie XIA, and SUSTech School of Medicine Dean Mingzhao XING.
