In recent days, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) received approval from the Reform and Development Commission of Shenzhen Municipality (SZDRC) to build the Shenzhen Institute of Design and Innovation (SIDI).
SIDI is located in Bao’an District, northeast of Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. Construction will start later before the beginning of the autumn semester, with the preliminary works moving ahead rapidly to support the building timetable. With everything going ahead, SIDI should be ready to be put into use in 2024.
SIDI is one of the Ten Cultural Projects of the New Era for Shenzhen. It represents a two-step process, with the first being the establishment of the School of Design at SUSTech in 2019. After a transitional period, it could become an independent college in its new location. As part of the first stage, it is readying itself to introduce talented creative designers, develop its discipline, finalize campus matters, and prepare for students in the near future.
SIDI will take an international approach to creative design that befits its integration with the Greater Bay Area. It seeks to become a high-level, world-class, and innovative creative design school to satiate the urgent demand required by industry. It will develop its talent pipelines in progressing itself into a transformation base of achievements for the industrial development of Shenzhen and the creative design industry.
