Culture of Festivals at SUSTech
Chris Edwards | 06/14/2020

At Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), we have always enjoyed exposing the community to a broad array of extracurricular and cultural experiences. In a traditional year, many festivals take place throughout the year, cultivating a holistic approach to the SUSTech community.

Before the beginning of each academic year, the student clubs take the opportunity to show the newest intake of students the wide variety of extracurricular activities they offer. These activities include sports clubs, traditional Chinese culture, and music.

Towards the end of the autumn semester, the Creative Cultural Market encouraged student clubs and members of the community to sell their wares to the SUSTech community. The many stalls have inspired many members of the community to get a better understanding of broader creative cultural influences around the world.

As the end of the autumn semester and the Chinese New Year approaches, our Spring Couplet Calligraphy Festival is one of the highlights of the year. Carefully-written spring couplets are written for front doors across the nation with the help of the Shenzhen Calligraphers Association, wishing people good luck.

Once the spring semester resumes, it is not long until the Lakeside Dormitories light up for the Regional Culture Fair. Ethnic minorities, international communities, and provincial groups come together to display their local food, drink, performances, and cultural knowledge.

With the 2020-21 academic year due to resume in August, the entire SUSTech community is looking forward to bringing these festivals back to campus. We hope to see you soon!!
