On July 9, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and the Pingshan District Government signed a cooperation agreement to jointly build the SUSTech Medi-x Pingshan (Institute). Pingshan District Committee Secretary Yongxin TAO, Deputy Governor Huaxin SHEN, and Pingshan Education Bureau Director Yao PENG came to SUSTech. They were joined by SUSTech University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO, President Shiyi CHEN, Acting Vice President Yusheng ZHAO, and College of Science Deputy Dean Xumu ZHANG. President Shiyi CHEN presided over the signing ceremony.

Pingshan District Committee Secretary Yongxin TAO said that Pingshan District would continue to explore innovative directions in education, research, and industry-university research transformation. The Institute was an excellent opportunity to promote the development of the Pingshan District higher education cluster and cultivate more talents. He hoped that SUSTech would use its advantages in science and technology to work with Pingshan’s unique features for the Institute to become a first-class pharmaceutical innovation center.

University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO said that the cooperation between SUSTech and Pingshan District in building the Institute, and it reflects the spirit of innovation and exploration. She hoped that both sides would continue to cooperate and innovate to promote the development of the biomedical industry. SUSTech will build three platforms for technology, research and development, and industry-university-research transformation.

The Institute will explore industry-university research transformation in innovative medicine and pharmaceutical technology to help Pingshan District’s top-class biomedical industry. The development will inject new vitality and impetus into the development of SUSTech.

As part of the signing ceremony, Acting Vice President Yusheng ZHAO and Deputy Governor Huaxin SHEN signed the contract on behalf of both parties.
