As part of the graduation of the Class of 2020 at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), it is essential to see the steps they are taking on their historical journeys through data.

In 2020, 933 undergraduates students and 392 graduate students. About 93% of the Class of  2020 will continue their academic pursuits or have accepted full-time employment. Over 60% have opted for further study, with most of the remainder taking jobs in top companies. Some have decided to join the military, become teachers under rural teaching plans or other projects to support the nation.

Our students continue to attract attention from top universities both within mainland China and around the world, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. About 65% of the Class of 2020 will continue their studies, with 142 directly pursuing their doctoral studies. The vast majority of our students have taken postgraduate positions in the top 100 universities. These institutions include the University of Cambridge (UK), the University of Chicago (USA), Johns Hopkins University (USA), University of California Berkeley (USA), University of New South Wales (Australia), National University of Singapore, King’s College London (UK), University of British Columbia (Canada), and the University of Hong Kong.

Domestically, students will also be heading to Tsinghua University, Peking University, the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, and the University of Science and Technology of China. Some will head to emerging research universities such as Shanghai University of Science and Technology (ShanghaiTech) and Westlake University.

Students opting for full-time employment are mostly staying in the Greater Bay Area and almost entirely in Shenzhen. Many of them have taken positions in top positions in highly-regarded local and international companies like Huawei, Tencent, Alibaba, Amazon, Baidu, DJI, Bytedance, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Deloitte.

SUSTech has continued to pay attention to the quality of employment opportunities for its graduates. It has taken many measures to promote the characteristics of its graduates to provide them the best chance to be employed. The multi-leveled approach to graduate employment has seen the development of a platform that supports the SUSTech community in coordinating employment resources for enterprises and students. The Employment Guidance Center also encouraged students to consider alternative employment options to ensure that students could find their optimal path in life.
