On July 11, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) welcomed over fourteen thousand students from 22 provinces, autonomous regions, and cities across the country to undertake the admission test. SUSTech plans to enroll 1,100 students from more than 43,000 candidates.

2020 marks the ninth year that SUSTech has selected top students through its comprehensive evaluation admissions model. The admission test is one of the critical parts of the model. The test examined each student’s innovative abilities and overall qualities. Other assessable skills included their knowledge, literacy, imagination, insight, concentration, critical thinking, and English skills.

The testing center at SUSTech was the largest in the country, hosting over thirteen thousand students. An additional testing center was also opened in Guangzhou that allowed nearly one thousand students.

SUSTech strictly followed the epidemic prevention and control measures in managing the situation. Students were required to provide their health code, health & safety commitment letter. Every individual had their temperature monitored, and emergency facilities were prepared in case applicants were unwell.

SUSTech University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO checked exam sites across SUSTech with department heads, before observing sites across the country through the nationwide monitoring room.

While the tests were taking place, the admissions teams for each regional area were introducing to parents and students. They provided briefings on the development of SUSTech in recent years, the cultivation of innovative talents. The teams also spoke about the enrollment to SUSTech under the comprehensive evaluation admissions model.

Following the computer tests and interviews, there will also be physical tests as required by the Ministry of Education. The results of this component serve as an important reference for admission.
