On July 10, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) collaborated with Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) to hold a planetary science seminar. The Department of Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) at SUSTech hosted the online-offline event. ESS scholars and students were joined by experts from the SYSU School of Atmospheric Sciences.

At the seminar, ESS director Xiaofei CHEN and SYSU School of Atmospheric Sciences Professor Jun CUI introduced their respective institutions. Attending scholars and students conducted twenty reports, while also holding in-depth discussions on the latest progress in planetary science and deep space exploration.

SYSU attendees talked about their cutting-edge research into the atmosphere and ionosphere of Mars, solar physics, and interplanetary physics. The ESS community introduced its leading research on magnetospheric satellite observations and numerical simulations of Saturn, Jupiter, and Earth. They also spoke of their research methodologies and applications of astrophysics, geophysics, chemistry, and geodesy in planetary science.

The seminar sought to promote in-depth cooperation and exchanges between fellow institutions and cultivate outstanding talent in planetary research while promoting scientific research in the planetary sciences. It has laid a foundation for extensive scientific research cooperation between both institutions.
