SUSTech Associate Professor Yu LIU from the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) was recently elected as a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautics Society (FRAeS). He was recognized for his contributions to fundamental research and engineering applications of aeroacoustics.

Dr. Yu LIU studied at Beihang University and the University of Cambridge. He completed his postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Cambridge. After serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Surrey, he returned to China to join SUSTech in 2016. He has published more than 70 papers in high-impact academic journals and international conferences. Thirty of those papers were published in specialist SCI journals such as AIAA Journal, Journal of Sound and Vibration, and Aerospace Science and Technology.

Dr. Yu LIU serves as the Director of the Advanced Aerodynamics and Aeroacoustics Laboratory (A3 Lab). It has recently received more than ten funding projects from various national, provincial, municipal, scientific research institutes and industrial bodies. Dr. Yu LIU was elected as a Fellow of the Higher Education Association (HEA) and a Senior Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) in 2014.

Dr. Yu LIU has been primarily engaged in fundamental scientific research and critical technical issues that relate to aeroacoustic theories and applications. He has completed several influential original works in areas such as aerodynamic noise mechanisms, flow and noise control, and aerodynamic & acoustic testing technology.

The Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) was established in 1866 and is the oldest aerospace professional organization in the world. It is mainly engaged in the development of scientific and technological research in aviation, aerospace, and related fields. The RAeS is committed to deepening the international aerospace field, promote continuous interdisciplinary cooperation for aerospace disciplines, and encourage the innovative development of aerospace technology.

Fellowship (FRAeS) is the highest grade attainable within RAeS. It is only bestowed upon those within the profession of aeronautics and aerospace. Fellows are selected through their outstanding contributions to aeronautics, attaining positions of high responsibility in the field, or having had long and high-quality experience in the discipline.
